Your Local Left Team In Flynn

I am running to represent Flynn as a delegate for State Conference. I am proud to represent my community as the Mayor of the Gladstone Region as well as the Central Queensland representative on the Local Government Association of Queensland Policy Executive. I have worked tirelessly through my roles in local Government to represent the interests of my community, and I believe that I can serve them well at State Conference. I have spent twenty years campaigning on both State and Federal elections for the Labor Party and have been a state conference delegate for Flynn for the past three years. My time within Labor has shown to me that we work best when everyone has a say in the direction of our party. Central Queensland deserves a say and I offer true regional representation with years of political experience and community leadership.

I joined the Labor Party four years ago because I wanted to advocate on behalf of working Queenslanders. Since then, I have been heavily involved in all State and Federal campaigns as a volunteer, spreading the message about Labor values. I believe it takes ordinary working people to stand up and ensure that governments are looking after the little guys. I'm proud to be a Councillor for the Gladstone Regional Council and spend every day of my life standing up for people in Central Queensland. I’m a proud and active member of my union, the AMWU, and always aim to improve the lives of working people. As a boilermaker by trade, I’ve seen firsthand some of the unfair conditions that ordinary working Australians have to endure. I have three young children and I’m passionate about good government policy that ensures fairness and opportunities for our future generations. I am asking for your vote to represent you as a delegate for Flynn because I believe I know what it takes to make your voice heard at State Conference.

I was raised in Blackwater since I was six, but left when I was 21 to travel the world, with over 15 years in hospitality and retail management. A little over 8 years ago I returned to live in my home town, just as Blackwater was in the bottom end of the mining boom. Over the next two years saw massive changes for our town and not one for the good.

I worked with other members of the coalfield community group to help build this vibrant town back to what it was many years ago. I am proud to be a part of the great Labor Party and will continue to campaign for genuine progressive change that will help members have a voice on grassroots community issues and better support people in our regions.

Having coordinated or assisted in many campaigns for the federal seat of Flynn, the State seat of Gladstone and the Mayor of Gladstone, I have been dedicated to ensuring we get Labor candidates elected in our area. I am a proud recipient of an Emma Miller award and of life membership of my union, United Voice, where I have been engaged as a member organiser. I am very passionate about workers' rights, I've also been an active participant at many protest rallies and local Labour Day activities. Having seen how Coalition government attack the wages and conditions of working people I am keen to ensure we have a fairer system by being engaged in Labor policy formation and direction.

I joined the Labor Party in 2001 and am honoured to have had the opportunity to work with Trevor Strong as his Electorate Officer and later for Leanne Donaldson, State Member for Bundaberg. I am a member of the Bundaberg and Coral Coast Branch and currently hold the positions of Treasurer and SEC delegate. I have been involved with many campaigns on both a state and federal level both as a party member and through my union, Together. I believe in workers’ rights, social justice, equality and respect for people from all backgrounds. I would love the opportunity to represent you at the state conference and we be a storng voice for a fair deal for Flynn and the regions.

I have lived in Blackwater for the last 18 years, working as an Electrician at BMA Blackwater Mine and I have been an Auxiliary QFES person for the last 12 years. I have been a member of the Labor Party since 2013 and recently took on the role of Secretary of the local Blackwater/Bluff Branch last year. I have been a member of the ETU since 1994 and the BMA Blackwater Mine Site ETU Delegate since 2012. I got involved with the Labor Party after becoming more active with my Union. What happened with Asset sales under the Bligh government made me realise that without more grassroots people and workers becoming involved in our party, it loses its way. I am committed to ensuring workers continue to be the backbone of the Labor party.
