Your Local Left Team In Capricornia

CRAIG ALLEN

I have been proud to be a Capricornia State Conference delegate for the past 2 terms and again seek your support to continue bringing the party back to the members. Being a strong voice on conference for the workers in regional Queensland is a passion for me and I have extenstive background in the union movement and fighting for workers rights. The increased advocacy for working Australians has help delivered strong policy which has helped fight against the likes of LNP and One Nation in regional Queensland. We must continue to be progressive and be inclusive of all our members as this will continue allow us to grow and to prosper against the tide of the conservatives.

ANNE BAKER

I have been an active ALP member in Central Queensland since 1995. I was first elected to local government in 2007 and have spent the last 6 years serving our local communities as Mayor of Isaac Regional Council. With 25 operating coal mines and counting, a thriving agricultural sector and the boom in renewables, our area is an economic powerhouse for the State. Every day I strive for a responsible balance between industry developments, jobs, our environment and our regional communities. As state conference delegate for our region, I will fight to bring our local voice into our state party platform.

MICHAEL COXON

I am a committed Labor Party member, with a real interest in driving progressive policy. As a State Conference delegate I would take pride in representing my community.

ROBERT MCKONE

I graduated Rockhampton’s CQUniversity with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineer and Vice-President of the Yeppoon ALP Branch. I have worked for over a year as an Electrical Engineering in Brisbane, Narrabri NSW, and Maryborough before going back to Rockhampton to do a PhD. My research is ARC funded and into the utilisation of batteries and solar over large areas, with improved performance during natural disasters. I have experienced privilege, while I work just as hard as everyone else, I have been advantaged through good luck for being born into a good family. Able to live at with my parents in Yeppoon while studying at University, without having to worry to work at that time, I was able given the unfair choice to direct all my work effort into purely University. However, some of my peers needed to detrimentally direct their work effort away from their studies. My strongest beliefs are in Energy Policy, Education and Child Safety. We all use electricity, an educated people are a strong and resilient people, and all children deserve to be safe in all environments.

LEISA NEATON

I contested Capricornia at the last election. My background is in education and I am the principal of a large primary school in Rockhampton. I am an active member of the Labor party, treasurer of Yeppoon branch, secretary of Keppel SEC and was heavily involved in organising the last combined regional Labor conference for CQ. I am also a proud union member of the QTU & AMWU, participating in various lobbying and union events. I attended the last National Conference as an observer and was a delegate at State Conference for the AMWU. I have been actively involved in policy development having contributed to the review of the ‘Learning for Life’ chapter of our party platform. I believe in the importance of local grass roots activism. I support the democratisation of our party and I was proud to support a conference motion requiring senators to be based in regional Queensland. The issues I am most passionate about include stopping the erosion of workers’ rights and conditions imposed by casualisation, stronger investment in regional infrastructure and services, and working with communities to develop localised plans to address the challenges posed by our changing economy.

KIM SINCLAIR

I live and work in Moranbah with my husband and two young daughters. As an active member of my community, for the last 14 years, I have been a passionate advocate for workplace safety, workers’ rights and secure jobs in our region. I joined my Local Progressive team because together we fight for strong legislation and policy that supports our communities and families in regional Queensland, to make sure they have the same opportunities as those in the South-East. I am currently the secretary of the Moranbah & District ALP branch, and an active member of the Isaac Regional Suicide prevention group and Labour Hire activist group. If elected as a State Conference delegate, I will continue to commit to furthering a progressive agenda for our community.

KELLY VEA VEA

I have been working as a branch executive since 2014 to help rebuild and grow active Labor membership across Central Queensland. I am a passionate advocate for regional mining communities. I was elected to Isaac Regional Council in 2012 and have continued to work with my colleagues to see the adoption of the Strong Sustainable Resource Communities Bill by QLD Labor in 2017, and now the new Social Impact Assessment Guidelines. I believe we need to reinvigorate the concept of a company’s social license to operate, and establish fair rules and conditions to make sure families, workers, businesses and communities have an opportunity to genuinely benefit from the developments they host. I have served as the Moranbah & District ALP & Left Branch for the last two years as President, and prior 2 years as Secretary.
